House 6 - Marcio Kogan

The "House 6" was thought after the client had made a significant request. The family wanted a space with a cover exterior to be used for everyday life. This space organized social life of the house .

Brazil's tropical climate suggests the widespread use of these solutions, as well as modern architecture. From colonial times, in Brazilian architecture has been incorporated (usually) an area known as "gallery." Linear spaces covered against the living room and bedrooms that act as intermediaries between interior and exterior.

In the House 6 of the project, the idea (gallery) has been reinvented. The gallery is not exactly in front of the living room, arranged longitudinally, but rather perpendicular to it. The wooden pillars that support the structure and clay tiles from traditional terraces have been replaced by modern piles supporting a volume of flat slabs.

The backyard 6, however, is being an open space, and simultaneously opens onto the garden and pool. It is a living room, a TV room and an extension into the kitchen.
The space ordering and structure throughout the house, organized in two volumes and an appendix cross at the back which has an office. The higher volume consists of a private area in the house with rooms on the third floor is a small multi-purpose room.

Architecturally, the space of the gallery, located in the dorms, have a low ceiling height to create a warm feeling. The sum of the structure perpendicular to the two volumes and the height of the room, would lead to a very high ceiling.

Therefore, it was decided to lower the room in relation to the gallery and garden. This result has allowed a home with elongated proportions and the feasibility of a nice covered area on the outside to be used both on hot days and cold days in the city of São Paulo.
