Cirque Du Soleil: Cirque Reinvent Phantom

In 1987, after the re-privatization of Cirque du Soleil, Laliberté was invited to perform in Los Angeles Arts Festival. However, the circus team continued to face financial difficulties, so Norman Latourelle he too decided to go to Los Angeles, even though I only had money for a trip. The show was a resounding failure, Cirque was practically without funds to hire new employees and buy new furniture to go back to Montreal.

Despite the losing streak that was, the festival became a considerable success, both critically and financially.

Laliberté wanted to use it to expand and create a second show while Caron wanted to save them, giving a portion to the National Circus School. Never reached an agreement between the two, so Caron, together with a large number of employees who were loyal to him, left the Cirque facilities. This led directly to delayed plans to premiere a new tour that year.

sought a replacement Laliberté Gilles Ste-Croix for the post of artistic director (vacant with the departure of Caron); it, having been separated from Cirque since 1985, agreed to return. It was at that time also began to prevail several problems internally in the company, noting a failed attempt to add to Normand Latourelle as the third partner. This triumvirate lasted only six months, after which there were disagreements and Laliberté Gauthier forced to buy the share Latourelle. By the end of 1989, Cirque du Soleil was again in a state of deficit.
